AMOT Testimony before Senate Health & Human Services Committee

While the Texas Legislature is out of session until January 2009, there are a number of significant on-going activities, including interim committee hearings and the 2008 general election in November. Stay tuned for AMOT legislative updates leading up to and throughout the 2009 session.

During the 2007 Texas Legislative Session, the AMOT lobby team and other stakeholders worked hard to defeat onerous legislation that would have banned smoking in all public places in Texas, including bars and taverns. Going against longstanding historic commitments to limited state government and personal liberty, this invasive legislation had unprecedented support from the leadership of the Texas House and Senate. Grasssroots support, along with the strategic and tactical lobby management provided by AMOT, was the primary reason for the defeat of the proposed statewide smoking ban.
